usviewer: Biden said on Saturday that the United States and Turkey were prepared for a military solution in Syria if a political settlement was not possible, Reuters reported.
"We do know it would better if we can reach a political solution but we are prepared ..., if that's not possible, to have a military solution to this operation and taking out Daesh," Biden said at a news conference after a meeting with Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu.
Biden said he and Davutoglu also discussed how the two NATO allies could further support militant forces fighting against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
He said Washington recognized the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in Turkey was as much of a threat to Ankara as Daesh terrorists, and that Ankara had to do whatever was needed to protect its people.
Since September 2014, the US along with some of its allies has been conducting air raids against what are said to be the Daesh terrorists inside Syria without any authorization from Damascus or a UN mandate. The air assaults in Syria are an extension of the US-led aerial campaign against purported Daesh positions in Iraq, which started in August 2014.
Reports say US-led strikes have also killed scores of civilians in Syria ever since.
Syria has been grappling with a foreign-backed militancy since the early 2011. The violence has reportedly driven 4.4 million Syrians into neighboring states from where many are trying to reach Europe.
